A new solar farm study has shown that Sleaford and North Hykeham is one of the most impacted constituencies, with around 7% of the land in our area to be covered in solar panels under existing applications alone.
Massive solar farms proposed in our area include Springwell, Fosse Green, Beacon Fen and Leoda - applications to cover thousands of acres of beautiful farmland for the rest of our lives.
As I say in The Telegraph, Lincolnshire is being inundated with these applications, despite being the breadbasket of our country and producing 30% of the UK's vegetables. I share my constituents' fears that these solar applications will take a significant amount of our best and most versatile land out of use for the rest of our lives. This poses a real threat to our nation's food security. You can read The Telegraph's article here: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2025/03/22/ed-miliband-accused-targeting-farmland-build-solar-panels/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR6_7gE1oMC1NxVXZgY1-EFWtSxZtDO20-Pde6ErOEqz70QpPniT6_EzYlOH2g_aem_2FTv8XOXQe5bswfC4DM01Q
A sensible government plan wouldn't allow solar to be concentrated on our best food producing land. The Secretary of State is signing off thousands of acres for massive solar farms and not even acknowledging my request for a meeting to discuss the impacts.
