Today, I, Rt Hon Sir John Hayes CBE MP, Rt Hon Sir Edward Leigh MP for Gainsborough , Rt Hon Victoria Atkins MP, Alicia Kearns MP, Gareth Davies MP and Richard Tice MP have sent a joint letter to the Home Secretary about the urgency and precarity of Lincolnshire Police's financial situation.
This follows a deeply concerning letter from Lincolnshire's Chief Constable and the Police and Crime Commissioner this week which warned that “Without additional support or fundamental change in funding arrangements the force is at risk of having to issue a section 114 notice.” This would mark the first time a police force has ever been forced to do so, and it would leave communities in Lincolnshire unpoliced and unsafe.
We have asked the Government to rapidly review the situation, and have requested an urgent meeting with Yvette Cooper to discuss how this matter can be resolved.
