Raising an Urgent Question about the End of the NHS and Care Volunteer Responders Programme

In an Urgent Question, I’ve raised how the sudden decision to end the NHS and Care Volunteer Responders Programme will impact the NHS, local authorities and vulnerable patients. 

At the start of the Covid pandemic, the NHS Volunteer Responders was set up to support vulnerable people. Following its success, the last Government expanded the scheme into adult social care, forming a joint NHS and Care Volunteer Responders programme.

Yet out of nowhere, the Government has decided to cancel the service at the end of this month. No tasks allocated after 31 May will be completed, seemingly leaving patients in the lurch.
