In my role as Shadow Health Minister this week, I responded to a Westminster Hall Debate on the right to maintain contact in care settings.
Visit and accompaniment rights are vitally important for the health and wellbeing of residents in care homes, hospices and hospitals. It was with this in mind that the previous Government introduced Regulation 9A of The Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 to ensure that patients staying in hospital or residential care settings could receive visitors in a fair and consistent way.
I pressed the Minister to ensure that patients can have confidence that these regulations are working
effectively, and that systems are in place to detect any attempts to water down the rights they provide.
The Government are currently reviewing Regulation 9A, one year from the regulation coming into force. You can respond to this survey here

I look forward to hearing the Government’s proposals for ensuring that every patient enjoys these entitlements when receiving care and treatment.
